Batch Mixing is the process of combining predetermined amounts of dry material and/or liquids into a homogenous blend within a predetermined volume to create a batch. In a batch mixer, the ingredients are moved mechanically by the agitator from one end to the other. In this process the ingredients are passing by each other and dispersing evenly throughout the batch.

Continuous mixing/blending is the process of combining predetermined amounts of dry material and/or liquids into a homogenous blend at a predetermined rate to create a continuous flow. In a continuous mixer/blender, the ingredients are moved mechanically with paddles, blades, and/or a ribbon. In a continuous process machine the agitator is designed to mix and convey a continuous, homogenous flow.
